Postpartum/Newborn Home Visiting Program
Bringing a new baby home from the hospital is exciting, but new parents can have questions once they arrive at home. Catawba County Public Health’s Postpartum Maternal/Newborn Home Visiting Program can answer questions for new mothers: Is my baby eating enough? Am I breastfeeding correctly? Am I healing properly? Is feeling overwhelmed normal?
Nurses come to the home and perform a health assessment for mother and baby. The visit will help make sure the mother and child are healthy and adjusting well. If the mother or baby has a medical need, the nurse will make a referral to local healthcare resources. The nurse will also bring information on immunizations, child care, infant growth and development, and safe sleep practices.
