Child Fatality Prevention Team
The Catawba County Child Fatality Prevention Team meets quarterly and provides a multi-agency, multi-disciplinary approach to study cases of childhood death in Catawba County in order to attempt to reduce child fatalities. The team reviews the system of child protection and identifies potential gaps and strategies to help protect children from abuse and neglect, reduce child death, and support the safe and healthy development of children. It also advises the state committee on policy changes needed at the state level.
The team has the legal responsibility of reviewing cases of child fatalities when the family has been in interactions with Catawba County Social Services or Child Protective Services.
Safe Infant Sleeping: Locally, the team has identified safe sleeping practices as an area of concern. Babies should always sleep alone, on his/her back, and only in a crib. Click here for more information.
