Adult Preventive Health Clinic

Catawba County Public Health’s STD Clinic provides confidential testing, diagnosis, treatment and counseling for common sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV. Most services are available at no charge. Our services are available to anyone, regardless of the county you live in, as our location may be more convenient for you if you work or go to school in Catawba County.

• Individuals who believe they are experiencing symptoms of an STD infection or who believe they have been exposed to one should inform our scheduling staff so that we can get you scheduled within 24 hours. If we are unable to meet your need immediately, we will refer you to another appropriate provider.
• If you are requesting a routine screening appointment and have no symptoms, we will give you our first available appointment.
• Please call and cancel if you are unable to keep an appointment, as this will allow us to better serve our clients.

The Women’s Preventive Health Clinic provides a variety of confidential health and education services to women from puberty to menopause. Our services are available to anyone who qualifies financially, regardless of the county of residence, as our location may be more convenient for clients who work or go to school in Catawba County but live elsewhere.

Services include birth control, emergency contraception, STD testing and information, breast health services and education, cervical cancer screening and testing (pap smears and colposcopy), mammograms for women ages 40-64 who qualify, and referrals for further testing and treatment.

Some women may qualify to receive birth control methods and health care services for free through North Carolina’s Be Smart Family Planning Waiver (FPW) Program. To learn more, visit the Be Smart Family Planning Program page.

We offer several different methods of birth control, including condoms, Depo Provera (the shot), Mirena IUDs, Nexplanon implants, Paragard IUDs and pills. Options are available based on qualification. All of the options may not be available all the time, and cost varies.

The North Carolina Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP) is available to women ages 40-64 who are uninsured or underinsured and meet financial eligibility guidelines. This service provides cervical and breast cancer screenings that include a physical examination, pap smear (when indicated), and a clinical breast exam with instruction in self breast examination. Women who qualify can also be scheduled for a mammogram on the Catawba Valley Medical Center Mobile Mammogram Unit. We offer preventative health services, including exams and testing for men, family planning education and guidance, and referrals for permanent male birth control for men who qualify.

We offer free condoms, no questions asked, to individuals at both the main Public Health front desk and at the Adult Health Clinic check-in area by requesting a "brown bag."

HPV and other vaccinations are available during visits in the Adult Health Clinic or by appointment in our Immunization Clinic. Call (828) 695-5881 for immunization appointments and eligibility.
