Quilt Storytime with the HMA

Inspired by The Improvisational Quilts of Susana Allen Hunter, we’ll be having a special storytime with our friends at the Hickory Museum of Art.

Do you want your voice heard when it comes to programs and materials for teens? Apply to join the Teen Advisory Council. Meetings will be held at 5 pm on the 4th Tuesday of every month. Teen Life-Sized Clue

Community Virtual Quilt Project
January 1-31
St. Stephens Branch Library

Let’s build a virtual quilt together! This project is inspired by the Hickory Museum of Art:  Improvisational Quilts of Susana Allen Hunter exhibit. You are invited to create your own quilt square that represents who you are. Let your imagination run wild and design a quilt square with whatever materials you like best- just make sure your creation is in the shape of a square. Then snap a picture to send to nmorse@catawbacountylibrary.gov.The best part is you can keep whatever you create – we just need the photo! Quilt squares can be created at home, or at the St. Stephens Branch Library quilt creation table open all month long. 

Flashback Friday Trivia

Join us for a trivia trip down memory lane as we tackle trivia questions related to history, popular culture, and famous personalities from the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Compete for prizes and enjoy coffee and doughnuts in this fun competition for adults who love trivia. 

Zumba LIVE with Honey & Jossiah

Kick off your week with a burst of Zumba, a dance and movement class that’s too much fun to call exercise. It’s appropriate for every skill and ability level and open to anyone 14+ (parental signature required for teens under 18). Basics of Going Virtual

Many fun and interesting programs are offered via Zoom but using it isn’t always easy. Join us for a tutorial on signing up for, logging into, and joining meetings on Zoom. We will look at the various settings available to you as a presenter and attendee and how you can set up your own meetings. Books Between Friends Book Club

Join us as we discuss The Girl with the Louding Voice by Abi Dare. The book is an inspiring story of a teenage girl growing up in a rural Nigerian village who longs to get an education so she can break the chains of poverty and a culture that has very limited expectations for women. STEAM: Paint Pouring Art

Join us to create eye-catching abstract art by experimenting with acrylic paint pouring methods. Learn about color theory, simple techniques for mixing paints for easy flow while also discovering different tools and useful items to create effects like cells and other one of a kind designs. No Sew Quilted Snow Person

Join us as we make a no sew quilted snow person. This program is inspired by the Improvisational Quilts of Susana Allen Hunter exhibit featured at the HMA. Susana Allen Hunter used scraps of fabric in her creations, and we will too. To register, please visit the library or call 828-466-6818.

Yoga for Everyone

Conditional Formatting in Excel
