This Week in Catawba County History

January 20, 1922

Every week, Local History Librarian, Alex Floyd, takes a 100-year dive into Catawba County’s past through the magic of newspaper archives. During that time period, our local newspaper was called the Catawba News-Enterprise and was published on Tuesdays and Fridays. Here is an excerpt from January 17 and 20, 1922:

"Good for the stewards of the Methodist church of Newton. They have resolved on the side of law and order. Let them follow with vigor their resolutions with actions. Let other church official bodies go and do likewise in Catawba county. Woe be unto the moonshiners, when the churches put on their fighting clothes for law and order."

The Rhodes Room, located at the Main Library in Newton, is the home of our Genealogy and Local History Collection. The Rhodes Room is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 9 am to 6 pm. For more information, visit the Main Library in Newton or https://www.catawbacountync.gov/library/gen/
