Piece of Cake Book Club: House of Names
Published: March 18, 2021
Do you love reading great books and talking about the experience with a circle of good-natured friends?
If you’re looking for camaraderie with folks who are as eager to discuss character, language, and narrative as they are their occasional displeasure with plot points and author choices, join a library book club! One of them, Piece of Cake, began life in a bakery setting, and its selections are accessible fiction reads, with a memoir or two tucked in every so often. The authors represent a range of fascinating voices, and the conversations are always fun and engaging.
The group meets next at 4 pm on Thursday, March 25 via Zoom to discuss House of Names by Colm Tóibín. Regarded as one of 2017’s best books by a number of publications, the novel is a modern retelling of the story of Clytemnestra, the legendary Greek queen, and her children. If you’d like to participate in the discussion, register at https://tinyurl.com/ccls-pieceofcake to receive the Zoom link.
And if you’d like to get a head start on April’s novel, pick up The Daughter’s Tale by Armando Lucas Correa. The international best-seller is based on true events and crafts a narrative of World War II family history, relating the heroism and compassion of maternal love in the face of terrible atrocities.
