Holiday Shopping: Made Easy at Your Library

Holiday Shopping: Made Easy at Your Library

Published: November 24, 2021

Part of our mission at the library is providing services and resources to our community, and what better way to do that at this time of year than to make your holiday shopping a little easier? There are several ways to shop at all of our branches so you can be sure to find something for everyone on your list, from stocking stuffers to gift baskets for that special someone!

Our library system is very fortunate to have three Friends groups who are always working to support the library’s mission by volunteering and fundraising. All year long the Catawba County Friends, the Claremont Friends, and the Sherrills Ford-Terrell Friends of the Library sponsor on-going book and basket sales. A selection of earbuds, canvas totes, and gently used books is available through the ongoing Friends sales at all library locations and a special selection of holiday baskets has just been put together with books revolving around different themes, small gifts, and treats. What does this mean for you? Easy holiday shopping! You can find something for everyone on your list and most items have a suggested donation amount ranging from $0.25-$15.00. Contact your local branch to learn more about the selection they have available.

As a bonus, if you’re visiting the Main Library in Newton, you can stop at the Art-o-Mat machine to pick up unique pieces of art, perfectly sized for stocking stuffers. An Art-o-Mat machine is a retired cigarette vending machine that has been converted to vend original artwork from artists all across the country. The current stock of art includes tiny crochet surprises, felted pocket friends, tiny pottery, jewelry, painted art, and more. At only $5 each, these tiny works of art make a delightful stocking stuffer for the whole family.

The proceeds from these purchases enable our Friends groups to continue to support the library’s efforts in providing literacy and lifelong learning programs for the community. It’s a win-win-win for you and for your library!

But wait there’s more! Consider the Library Endowment -  the perfect gift for the person who already has everything! You can make a tax-deductible donation to the Library Endowment in honor of your loved one. The recipient of your gift will receive a personalized acknowledgement with a holiday card, and memorial gifts will be acknowledged to the family. Your contribution to the Library Endowment will last forever and serves to support library services for generations to come. For more information on how to make a donation to the endowment, visit your local library branch or and click the “Give Now” button.

We’re continuously grateful for your support and the ability to continue providing services and resources to our community. We hope you’ll consider your library for your holiday shopping this year.
