Catawba County honors veterans with Operation Green Light
Published: November 03, 2026
NEWTON, NC — The Catawba County Justice Center in Newton will be illuminated in green November 4-11, 2026, as part of Operation Green Light for Veterans, a nationwide effort uniting counties to support military veterans.
On Monday, Nov. 2, the Catawba County Board of Commissioners adopted a proclamation to support Operation Green Light.
Operation Green Light’s mission is to show support for military veterans. The initiative, led by the National Association of Counties (NACo), raises awareness around the challenges faced by many veterans and the resources available at the county, state and federal levels to assist veterans and their families.
Catawba County encourages its citizens to recognize the importance of honoring all those who made immeasurable sacrifices to preserve freedom by displaying a green light in a window of their place of business or residence. By shining a green light, we let our veterans know that they are seen, appreciated and supported.
“Operation Green Light is a meaningful way to remind the approximately 9,000 veterans in Catawba County that their service and sacrifices are appreciated and never forgotten. Our Veteran Services Office is here to help veterans and their families receive the benefits and services they have earned,” Catawba County Veteran Service Officer Rebecca Mattison said. “I am grateful to our Board of Commissioners for their continued support of our veterans.”
Veterans who reside in Catawba County can connect with resources through the Catawba County Veteran Services office, which is located in the Emergency Services office in the Catawba County Justice Center. The office assists veterans and their dependents with filing Veterans Administration claims for benefits and services. Appointments are required and can be made by calling 828-465-8255.
