The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit (SVU) is a dedicated investigative team responsible for some of the most sensitive and high-impact cases within our community. This unit is composed of three investigators: Senior Investigator Russ Boger, Senior Investigator Jared Broome, and Investigator Samantha Smiley.

SVU investigators are tasked with handling child sexual abuse, physical abuse, and other crimes committed against vulnerable victims. Their work requires a high degree of professionalism, empathy, and specialized training to ensure victims receive immediate support and cases are investigated thoroughly and objectively.

The Special Victims Unit operates with a victim-centered approach, prioritizing the safety and well-being of the children involved while pursuing offenders through precise, evidence-driven investigations. Their work plays a critical role in protecting the most vulnerable members of Catawba County and supporting the mission of the Sheriff’s Office to uphold justice and safeguard our community.
