The June 15, 2026 Board of Commissioners meeting was called to order at 7pm. The agenda for tonight’s meeting can be found at https://bit.ly/3utv5SE.

BOC approved minutes from the Board’s Regular Meeting June 1, 2026; Special Meeting of June 8, 2026.

Appointments

County Manager Mary Furtado recommends the reappointment of Lori Mathis as Tax Collector for a seventh term, with a term expiration of June 30, 2028.

Vice-Chair Allran recommends the appointment of Shelli Breadon to the Salt Block Foundation for a first term, with a term expiration of June 30, 2028.

Commissioner Abernethy recommends the following appointments/reappointments to the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, each with term expirations of June 30, 2028: Brandie Trouille for a first term, Honorable Robert Mullinas for a first full term, Jamie Todd and Paul Holden for second terms, Captain James Kerley and Reverend Ron Carson for third terms, Angela Simmons and Maria Ballard to fifth terms and Ronn Abernathy for a thirteenth term.

Commissioner Abernethy recommends the reappointment of Randy Isenhower to the Trivium Corporation Board of Directors, with a term expiration of June 30, 2029.

All appointments were approved.

Presentations

1 - Proclamation observing June 19th as “Juneteenth”.

2 – FY 2026-27 Home & Community Care Block Grant presented by WPCOG Area Agency on Aging Director Sarah Evitt. BOC approved.

3 – FY 2026-27 Catawba County Budget Ordinance Adoption presented by County Manager Mary Furtado. BOC approved.

4 – Opioid Settlement Funds Expenditure Resolution presented by County Manager Mary Furtado. BOC approved.

Consent Agenda

1 – The Finance and Personnel Subcommittee requests the Board of Commissioners appropriate $415,000 in 911 Telephone Fund fund balance for replacement of 12 AXS radio consoles.

2 – Staff requests the Board of Commissioners adopt the 2027 NC Housing Finance Agency Urgent Repair Grant Project Budget Ordinance, Assistance Policy and Procurement/Disbursement Policy, and Western Piedmont Council of Governments (WPCOG) Administration Agreement.

3 – Sergeant Brian Helms is retiring effective July 1, 2026. He has requested his badge and service weapon. In lieu of receiving these items at a Board of Commissioners meeting, he has asked that the weapon and badge be presented at a retirement ceremony at a later date.

4 – Staff requests the Board of Commissioners approve 15 releases totaling $11,640.74 and 60 Motor Vehicles Bill adjustments / refunds totaling $5,301.46 requested during the month of May.

BOC approved all 4 consent agenda items.
