A Library Halloween, pt. 1
Published: October 16, 2019
While Halloween technically falls at the end of October, we celebrate it throughout the month at the library! We love the mix of cute and spooky, charming and eerie, so we pack each week with activities to draw out the season.
Our slate of early Halloween events runs the gamut, offering family-friendly fun to help you maximize your decorating and your get-in-the-mood preparations. Here’s what we’ve got going on for the coming week (stay tuned for even more programs the week after!):
• On Tuesday, October 22 at 4:30 pm, we’re partnering with Parents as Teachers of Catawba County to present a Creepy Crafts workshop. We’ll use tissue paper, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, and more to make spiders, bats, and other Halloween creatures! All children are invited, although younger kids may need help from their adult. Everyone is invited to wear a costume to the program! • Main Library in Newton
• On Friday, October 25 from 4-6 pm, we’ll be hosting our first Halloween Party of the season. Kids are encouraged to come for trick-or-treating and to play games. We’ll also paint pumpkins, so think about whether you want to make something sweet or scary! We’re also inviting anyone who attends to wear a costume! • Conover Branch Library
• On Saturday, October 26 at 3 pm, it’s a BYOP Family Pumpkin Painting Party. Bring mom, dad, brothers, sisters, grandparents, and even aunts and uncles to decorate a pumpkin for the holiday. Pick out your favorite one from a local pumpkin patch, and we’ll provide all the supplies to make it something amazing that you can put on the front porch. We’ll also have refreshments on hand to make the work go quicker. This program takes place right before Downtown Newton’s Halloween Spooktacular (4-7 pm on the Square), so you can make a whole afternoon of family-friendly entertainment. • Main Library in Newton
