The mission of the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) is to establish and improve standards of state and local governmental accounting and financial reporting that will result in useful information for users of financial reports, and guide and educate the public, including issuers, auditors and users of those financial reports.
The purpose of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) is to enhance and promote the professional management of governments for the public benefit by identifying and developing financial policies and best practices and promoting their use through education, training, facilitation of member networking, and leadership.
The State and Local Government Division handles the sale and delivery of all State and local debt and monitors the repayment of State and local government debt. Staff counsel and assists local governments in determining feasibility of projects, and the size and most expedient form of financing. Additionally, this Division monitors and analyzes the fiscal and accounting practices of all local governments.
The mission of the UNC School of Government is to improve the lives of North Carolinians by engaging in practical scholarship that helps public officials and citizens understand and improve state and local government. The School provides educational, advisory, and research services for state and local governments including courses, seminars, and specialized conferences for public officials.
