Unified Development Ordinance (UDO)

For the past 6 years, Catawba County has worked with citizens across the County to develop a long-range vision for their community. To receive the greatest amount of public input, the County was divided into seven small areas, and a committee was formed from each area to develop specific recommendations on how their areas should grow over the next 10-20 years. These seven small area plans (SAP) include recommendations for density (how many houses per acre), design standards for new development and sign requirements. The SAP plan recommendations have been implemented through a Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The UDO contains all the land use regulations, such as zoning, subdivision, floodplain, etc., into one user-friendly document.

Our County Code is published at municode.com. The site is for informational purposes and is useful for searching and printing. However, no action should be taken without viewing the Official Publication as recognized by Catawba County.

IMPORTANT: Municode does not republish the code each time a change is made. The first page of our code will tell you the date it was last published. Often there will be a section at the bottom of the main page with links to recent ordinances that have not yet be incorporated into the code. Also, there may be times when ordinances have been very recently enacted, but Municode does not have them yet.
