DETENTION FACILITY: Tonia Elrod, Corporal

Briefly describe your job. What do you do?
Supervise the Booking Department in the Detention Facility. I process inmates in and out of the facility. I supervise the employees on the shift as she is the first line of supervision on the shift. 

What is a typical workday like for you?
Busy and challenging. I start every day by assigning employees to work in various stations throughout the detention facility. My main responsibility is booking but she responds to all fights and medical emergencies in the detention facility. I assist officers with a wide range of issues on any given day. 
 
What is your favorite aspect of your job – what do you enjoy doing most?
I love getting to work with an amazing and talented group of people. I have worked with many hard-working and professional individuals and made a lot of friends here over the years. I like the fact that I get to help train this new generation of officers and hopefully make a difference in their lives.

What is the County’s core value you believe most relates to the work you do, and why?
Diversity! I enjoy getting to work with a very diverse group of people.

What do you like best about working for Catawba County?
I enjoy interacting with a wide variety of people.  

Where did you grow up?
Saltillo Mississippi. Moved here in 1998.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love to go camping with my family. 

Favorite movie, TV show, and/or book?
The Blind Side

Favorite musical artist or genre?
I love 80’s rock and am a big fan of ACDC.

Favorite sports team(s)?
I don’t watch sports.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Teleportation. That way I could get around the detention facility faster and easier.
