Briefly describe your job. What do you do?
As an ERRN in the Adult Health Clinic, I provide STD screenings and treatment, as well as breast and cervical cancer screenings. As a clinical nurse, I also care for patients within our family planning program. In our Breast and Cervical Cancer Control (BCCCP) program, I can perform pap smears, breast exams, and order mammograms. In our family planning program, patients are able to receive a birth control method of their choice and/or address basic gynecological issues.
What is a typical workday like for you?
When I am functioning as a clinical nurse, I interview, educate, and provide treatment to our family planning, BCCCP, and STD patients. When I am functioning as an ERRN, I am able to conduct screenings and testing on patients for STDs, as well as breast and cervical cancers. I also review referrals, treatment plans, and lab results daily to provide appropriate care in a timely fashion.
What is your favorite aspect of your job – what do you enjoy doing most?
My favorite aspect of my job is my patients! I love being able to serve our community and provide them with the necessary care and resources that they need.
What is the County core value you believe most relates to the work you do, and why?
The county core value I believe most relates to the work that I do is people. As a public health nurse, I view every person as worthy of care, regardless of background, culture, or socioeconomic status. The people in our community are the central focus of my job. The core value of people drives public health as a whole to see health not just as a medical issue, but as a deeply human and social one - placing dignity, equity, and community at the heart of my practice.
What do you like best about working for Catawba County?
I love being able to directly improve the health and well-being of my neighbors and community. It’s meaningful to know the work I do has a lasting impact on individuals and families in Catawba County. I appreciate working alongside such dedicated individuals who share the same passion for public health.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in St. Mary’s County, Maryland.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work I enjoy traveling, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
Favorite movie, TV show, and/or book?
I love all things horror when it comes to movies and TV shows! My favorite book is Rebecca by Daphne de Maurier.
Favorite musical artist or genre?
I listen to all types of music genres – ‘70s hits to early 2000s and everything in between.
Favorite sports team(s)?
My favorite sports teams are the Washington Capitals, Washington Nationals, and Washington Commanders.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Telepathy – so I can understand the thoughts and feelings of others.
