Briefly describe your job. What do you do?
- Develop programs and reports for departments using various programming tools
- Create and maintain interfaces that allow external agencies and software to import data to the county’s financial system
- Maintain and enhance Peoplesoft financials as needed
- Document work completed. Train end-users
- Research current programming strategies to find smarter and better ways to do my job
What is a typical workday like for you?
- Check emails for the progress of night jobs and helpdesk tickets
- Work on current projects which may include writing code, testing, documentation and/or training
- Enhance current programs for better efficiency. For example, consolidating multiple reports or queries into one
What is your favorite aspect of your job – what do you enjoy doing most?
I like making people’s jobs easier. Communication is very important. To ensure what a user needs requires good listening skills also.
What is the County core value you believe most relates to the work you do, and why?
Doing What’s Right, which includes integrity, respect, transparency and professionalism relates mostly to my job. I need integrity to respect my co-workers and end-users. Transparency is important to build trust. Professionalism and knowledge are required for functional products.
What do you like best about working for Catawba County?
The people that work for Catawba county are exceptional. Catawba County employees are the county’s best resource. The county has a good diverse group of people.
