LIBRARY: Liv Liccione - Library Services Specialist
What is something you like for people to know about you?
Both personally and professionally, I believe that anything worth doing is worth making fun! Having fun is of the utmost importance to me.
What brought you to the library?
Either fate or exceptionally good luck, although I’m not sure which. Working in a library had been my dream when I first started college, but I was quickly dissuaded by gloom and doom warnings that the job market was extremely competitive and ultimately decided against pursuing it. I found myself at a career crossroads in the spring of 2021 and applied to a singular library job on a total whim, simply because it had been my dream back in college. As luck would have it, I ended up getting the job and have been absolutely in love with library work ever since!
What are a few of your favorite programs, or programs that have had the most impact, you have done this year?
Oh, there are so many to choose from! We just hosted a pop-up cat cafe in collaboration with the Catawba County Humane Society, which was absolutely delightful. Teen programming is always some of my favorite -- I really enjoyed the Pokémon origami class and cupcake decorating contest we hosted this past year. We also have a recurring outreach at the Hickory Comic Con that allows us to connect with graphic novel readers in our community, and as an avid comic reader myself, that’s always a blast.
If you had to pick one piece of library knowledge for everyone to know about, what would it be?
The modern library is not a cold, lifeless repository for books; it is a vibrant community center staffed by enthusiastic professionals who are eager to facilitate growth, learning, and connection! From resume workshops to video game tournaments to Zumba classes, the library has something for everyone!
What are you currently reading or what is the best book you’ve read this year?
Beneath my bubbly and excessively pink exterior, I’m a huge horror fan – the scarier the better! – so my favorites this year have all been horror manga: The Summer Hikaru Died by Mokumokuren, Alice in Borderland by Haro Aso, and Happiness by Shuzo Oshimi.
What are you looking forward to in 2025?
I’m planning to watch and rank all twenty-two films produced by Studio Ghibli before the end of 2025, and I think that will be really interesting!
