FINANCE: Dianna-Lee Keever, Grants Manager
Years with the County: 1+

Briefly describe your job. What do you do?
As the County Grants Manager my primary responsibility is to coordinate, review and evaluate our federal and state grant awards. I ensure that we comply with Uniform Guidance, our grant activities are accurate, and that they are in alignment with County goals. I provide fiscal management, monitoring, and assessments for grants across almost every department in the County. I am also available to provide training, assist with seeking out new grant opportunities, review of applications, and provide help in submitting applications.

What is a typical workday like for you?
I smiled when I read this question because I have yet to experience a “typical workday.”  While I do spend a great deal of time drafting contracts, processing disbursements, completing financial and performance reports, and researching grants, my work has taken me out of the office and into the Courts, the Parks, the community at large. It has opened opportunities to engage with other County programs and to work beside staff in a variety of ways.

What is your favorite aspect of your job – what do you enjoy doing most?
I moved to North Carolina back in the late 90’s and lived in Catawba County for 24 years. This past year of working for the County has shown me how much I do not know about Catawba County. More specifically, the layers of government and the impact of the work done by County employees. The best aspect of my work is learning these new things and engaging with distinct groups in our many departments. I believe in building bridges in all aspects of work and life, and I look forward to having the opportunity to do more of that within our organization through the Grants process.

What is the County core value you believe most relates to the work you do, and why?
That is difficult to answer. I see a bit of each of the core values in the tasks I perform throughout my workweek. But, if I had to pick one, I would say Doing What Matters Most: Service to Others, Initiative, Empowerment, Prioritization, Authenticity. My work background is in the nonprofit sector, so I place a great deal of value in human services. Nothing excites me more than to help others identify and overcome barriers that could potentially interfere with important human services connections and outcomes. I love seeing real human service impacts within our government. Grants are just one small piece of the greater puzzle that makes this happen. Whether we realize it or not, when we all come to work each day, we have the opportunity to change the lives of those who live in our community in some way. After all, that is what we are here for, Making. Living. Better.

What do you like best about working for Catawba County?
My favorite thing about working for Catawba County is the people. I have had the pleasure to work with some remarkably diverse teams and have met some great people who are motivated and determined to make this a great community. I would be remiss if I did not especially mention my teammates in the Finance Department. To be honest, I do not have the same accounting background that each of my coworkers brings to the table and was not quite sure how I would fit in. But each one of them has embraced me, provided guidance when needed, and continues to support me through this learning curve. It is a wonderful place to be, with great Leadership. Everyone I have encountered across the board has been positive, professional, and inclusive. Working here has been an all-around great experience!
