Cameron Kale

Public Health: Cameron Kale, School Health Nurse
Years with the County: 1.5
Briefly describe your job. What do you do?
I take care of students’ health needs during the school day, from treating minor injuries and illnesses to managing medications and helping students with ongoing health conditions. I also work closely with parents, teachers, counselors, and other staff to help ensure students can stay healthy, safe, and ready to learn.
What is a typical workday like for you?
No two days are exactly the same! I may start the morning helping students who aren’t feeling well, checking on students with medical needs, administering medications, or handling the occasional scraped knee or sports-related injury. A big part of my job is also listening to students and helping them figure out what they need to feel better and get back to class.
What is your favorite aspect of your job – what do you enjoy doing most?
I enjoy getting to know the students and being someone they can come to when they need help. It’s rewarding when a student comes in having a rough day and leaves feeling better, more confident, or simply knowing that someone is in their corner.
What is the County core value you believe most relates to the work you do, and why?
Service to Others. Being a School Nurse is really about serving students and families. Sometimes that means providing medical care, and other times it means taking a few minutes to listen, answer a question, or help a student get through a tough part of the day. Those small moments can make a big difference.
What do you like best about working for Catawba County?
I like being part of a team that is focused on helping people succeed while also making sure they have access to the medical care they need. There are so many people working behind the scenes, especially within the school system, and I enjoy being one of the people who helps keep things running safely and smoothly.
