Briefly describe your job. What do you do?
I enjoy my role in Accounts Payable because it allows me to support the county by ensuring vendors are paid accurately and on time. I process vouchers for weekly payments through checks, ACHs, and EFTs, carefully reviewing each for accuracy and compliance. I also match invoices to purchase orders and maintain accurate balances.
In addition, I manage vendor records in PeopleSoft by setting up new vendors, verifying required documentation, and ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements. My responsibilities include reconciling vendor statements, tracking outstanding checks, reviewing procurement card transactions, and processing both monthly and annual reports, including the annual 1099 process. I assist with daily check processing as needed and take pride in being detail-oriented, dependable, and helpful.
What is a typical workday like for you?
A typical day begins with reviewing emails and pulling voucher spreadsheets for evaluation. I print and review purchase orders, verify vendor information, and set up vendors for approval. Once all documentation has been reviewed, I process vouchers—typically ranging from 50 to 150 per day, depending on the time of the month. After processing, I balance my work, run the required system processes, and ensure all information is accurate and ready to move forward.
What is your favorite aspect of your job – what do you enjoy doing most?
My favorite part of my job is Thursdays, when I run the check run process for our vendors. Although it is a lengthy process, typically taking four to five hours is very rewarding. By the time I begin the check run, I have usually processed 400–500 vouchers for the week, so it is satisfying to see that work balance correctly and successfully moves through the system. Following the step-by-step process and watching everything come together is extremely fulfilling and truly makes my day enjoyable.
What is the County core value you believe most relates to the work you do, and why?
The Catawba County core value that best represents my work is Doing It Well. I take pride in accuracy, accountability, and following established processes to ensure payments are completed correctly and on time. Seeing my work balance and process successfully each week reflects the level of care and excellence I bring to my role.
What do you like best about working for Catawba County?
What I value most about working for Catawba County is the people. The employees and leadership genuinely care, and I am fortunate to work with an incredible team that feels more like family than coworkers. The support, teamwork, and genuine care we have for one another truly make Catawba County a great place to work.
Where did you grow up?
Union Mills, North Carolina
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my two teenage children (when they are willing), walking and hiking, and relaxing with a good book in front of the fireplace. I also love snuggling up with my two cats, Swiss and Roger. In addition, I cherish the time I get to spend with my husband—whether we are cooking together, watching movies, or taking day trips.
If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
If I could have one superpower, it would be the ability to be in more than one place at a time. This would allow me to always be there for the people who need me—whether it’s family, work, or helping others—without having to choose. Being present and supportive is important to me, and this superpower would allow me to give my best to everyone.
