Ranger on duty during park hours

St Stephens Park, formerly a part of the City of Hickory’s system, reopened as a county park in 2007. The 9.1-acre park is located at 2247 36th Ave NE. The park is located beside Clyde Campbell Elementary School. Thirty sixth Ave NE ends at the park entrance.

While St Stephens Park is located adjacent to an urbanized area of Hickory, the park design and natural features provide the visitor with a respite from the pressures of today’s fast paced world.  You can take a short walk on the 1/3 mile hiking trail which traverses the picnic areas and leads through a wooded area that makes you feel miles away from a city.  The children can benefit from physical activity on the playground equipment, and the dogs can run in the dog park.  The entire family can enjoy quality time together while enjoying a picnic lunch, creating a pleasant outing for everyone.

  • 1-acre dog park
  • 1/3 mile gravel surfaced walking trail
  • Educational landscaping
  • Playground
  • Horseshoe pits
  • Picnic shelter
  • Bird feeding station
The dog park has proven to be a popular part of the renovated St. Stephens Park due to its location in a densely populated area of the county and close proximity to the City of Hickory. Many owners visit the park each day of park operations, creating a social experience for themselves while providing necessary exercise for thier pets. Dog owners must obtain a permit for all dogs using the enclosed dog park.
