Animal Services provides animal control services for Catawba County as required by North Carolina state law. This includes responding to and investigating reports of animal cruelty, animal nuisance, stray animals, and animal bites.
The Catawba County Animal Shelter is located at 201 Government Services Drive on the Catawba County Government Center campus in Newton. Through an innovative public-private partnership, the shelter is fully managed by the Humane Society of Catawba County (HSCC). HSCC staff facilitate the intake of all animals presented at the shelter, veterinary care, fostering and adoption, educational programming and vaccine clinics, volunteer coordination, and maintenance of shelter equipment.
Catawba County Animal Services provides animal control and public health related services from the shelter and is responsible for maintenance of the building.
