Photos of July 4th fireworksCatawba County offices will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2009, in observance of the July 4th holiday.   All Solid Waste Convenience Centers will be open on July 3, but all convenience centers will be closed on Saturday, July 4.
The Catawba County Board of CommissionersThe Catawba County Board of Commissioners and Maiden Town Council will hold a special joint meeting on Monday, July 6, 2009 at 5:30 p.m. at the Maiden Recreation Center located at 207 East Klutz Street, Maiden. graphic of a calculatorCatawba County Board of Commissioners adopts 2009-2010 County budget.  The budget holds the County property tax rate stable at 53.5 cents per $100 of property value. It addresses the impact of the recession through conservative revenue estimates and by holding the line on spending. Operating costs are down by 4%, sixteen positions are unfunded, staff has been reassigned to areas with highest service demands, and technology used to maximize available resources. Catawba County Emergency Services officials receive grant from FM GlobalCatawba County Emergency Services to bolster fire prevention efforts through grant.  Its Fire and Rescue Division recently received a $1000 fire prevention grant from FM Global, a property insurer of the world’s largest businesses. The award will be used to help fire investigators more efficiently investigate and determine the cause of a fire. Full story
Images of flagsCatawba County invites public to share July 4th photos.  The County recently began using Flickr, an online photo management and sharing application. Photos will be placed on the County's website. Catawba County, at its sole discretion, has the right to determine which photos submitted are appropriate for publication.  Full story
Photo of a temporary food standCatawba County Environmental Health insures food safety during festivals.  Just as you look for a restaurant’s sanitation grade, you should look for a temporary food stand’s permit before ordering. Temporary food establishments are required to be inspected and permitted prior to serving the public. Full story
Photo of a dog and catCatawba County Animal Services to continue rabies vaccination clinics on July 11.  The next clinic will be held at the Hickory American Legion Fairgrounds on Highway 70 east of Hickory. Animal Services is also providing one year rabies vaccinations to pet owners year round, by appointment. Full story

Photo of a Catawba County convenience centerSherrills Ford Convenience Center to remain open at current location after May 17.   The Convenience Center will remain in operation after May 17, 2009 as Catawba County and Duke Energy develop a lease arrangement that will allow the Center to remain open at its current location.  Full story
