The Catawba County Board of Elections

is committed to efficiently conducting fair, honest, and impartial elections so that all qualified Catawba County citizens may exercise their right to vote.

The office conducts local elections, operates voting sites, maintains voter registration lists and handles numerous aspects of election administration. The Catawba County Board of Elections works in conjunction with the State Board of Elections office to ensure that elections are conducted lawfully and fairly.


Registration Repair Project

Feb 3, 2026 - The North Carolina State Board of Elections is sending a third round of Registration Repair letters to voters whose registration records are missing either a driver’s license number (DL#) or the last four digits of their Social Security number (SSN4), as required by state and federal law. If you receive a Registration Repair letter, please, update your voter record by providing a driver’s license or social security number or by ensuring the name on your voter registration matches other official government records. Over 4,500 letters were sent to voters in Catawba County.

Things to know about voting:

  • Photo ID is required for voting (in-person and by-mail).
  • Registered 17-year-old voters may vote in the March Primary if they will be 18 on the date of the November General Election (Nov 3rd, 2026).
  • In a Primary, you may vote only the ballot of the party with which you are affiliated [Democrats may vote only the DEM ballot, Republicans may vote only the REP ballot].
    If you are Unaffiliated (UNA), you may choose either a DEM or REP ballot--but not both.
  • The deadline to change your party is 25 days before the election (registration books close Feb 6th).Check your affiliation before the Feb 6th deadline!
  • Registered voters may vote at any of the Early Voting sites in the county; however, on Election Day, you are required to vote only at the designated polling site for your address.
  • If you are not a registered voter by the close of books (Feb 6th) and are eligible to vote, you may register and vote only at an Early Voting site with proof of residence and valid photo ID.

March 3, 2026 Democratic and Republican Primaries

Partisan Primary for the Democratic and Republican Parties to determine which candidates will represent their party on the November 2026 general election.

  • 17-year-olds may vote in a primary if they will be 18 on or before the General Election (Nov 3, 2026).
  • Unaffiliated voters may choose either a DEM or REP ballot to vote. Libertarian and Green Party voters do NOT have a ballot in this primary election.
  • The last day to change party affiliation is February 6th. Update Registration

  • If you received a mail-in ballot, it must be at the Board of Elections office by 7:30pm Election Day (Tuesday, March 3). If it is not pysically in the office by that time, it will not count.

ELECTION DAY - Tuesday, March 3, 2026

Law requires you to vote at the polling site based on your residential address (where you lived on Feb 1, 2026).

Polls are open 6:30AM to 7:30PM.

  • Election Day voting is for residents registered to vote on or before Feb 6, 2026 that have not voted early or by mail.
  • No party changes can be made after February 6th.
  • Valid, unexpired, Photo ID is required. Voters may use an expired photo ID if it expired AFTER they turned 65 years of age.
  • At the polls, voters may update their name, residential address (if moved within the county), mailing address, and phone number.
  • Unaffiliated voters may choose either the Democratic or Republican ballot.
  • Registered 17-year-olds may vote in the Primary if they will be 18 on or before Nov 3, 2026 (date of General Election).
  • Libertarian and Green Party voters do not have a ballot for this election.
  • Certain voters, because of age or physical disability, may vote curbside from a vehicle. A sworn oath by the voter will be required before a curbside ballot is issued.

Update Registration* use for changes to: name, address, mailing address, party affiliation [the NC DMV Portal is the preferred way to make changes].
The deadline to change your voter registration (including your PARTY affiliation) for the March 2026 Primary is February 6th.
In a Primary election, only Unaffiliated voters may choose which party's ballot to vote. If you are NOT Unaffiliated, you may only vote the ballot for the party you listed on your registration. Please, check your registration before the deadline.

Registration Repair Project
