A Deputy needs to complete BLET - Basic Law Enforcement Training. It is offered as a 6-month course at most community colleges; however, student must be sponsored by law enforcement agency. See details below.
Detention Officers do not have to complete BLET. There is a month long course that we pay for after we hire a detention officer.
Deputies start at $34,402 ($16.54 per hour)
Detention Officers start at $31,198 ($15.00 per hour)
We usually have part-time positions open. Full-time Officers are hired from the part-time staff (unless applicant has prior law enforcement experience). Promotion is performance based. Applications are available in Sheriff’s Office and Detention reception.
