The Sheriff’s Office has received several reports from citizens that have received calls from someone identifying themselves as Catawba County Sheriff’s Deputies. The suspect caller states that they missed jury duty and have a warrant out for their arrest. The suspects identify themselves as Sheriff’s Deputies using actual names of current Deputies, and the numbers even appear as numbers from the Sheriff's Office. The suspect caller provides the victim’s name, address, and birthdate (information which is all attainable on the internet), and are telling the victims they must send money to avoid being arrested. THIS IS A SCAM. Do not give out ANY personal information or transfer/send money. Law Enforcement, the Clerk of Court, District Attorney/Government Agencies WILL NOT ask for personal information or money over the phone.
