Let's Make Hmong Egg Rolls!
Published: August 21, 2018
Note: Newton's session filled up quickly, but a second workshop will take place at the Sherrills Ford-Terrell Branch on Saturday, September 22 at 11 am. We hope you'll consider it as an alternative! Call 828.466.6827 to register.
If you’ve frequented one of the county’s great Asian restaurants, you know how addictive well-made egg rolls can be. A lightly crisp wrapper, a savory filling tinged with garlic and ginger, and a fragrant dipping sauce for added kick: It’s impossible to eat just one!
If you’d like to learn how to create these tempting packages, the Library is hosting a workshop on the ingredients and techniques that go into making them. We’ll share tips for topping the wrappers with just the right amount of filling and then rolling up the wrappers so that they stay perfectly sealed for a quick fry.
Many authentic recipes feature ground pork, and we'll be making versions with meat, but we’ll also be doing a vegetarian version and customizing the ingredients to satisfy individual palates. With a little observation and attention to detail, you’ll be turning out batches of authentic Hmong-style egg rolls to the unmitigated delight of your family and friends.
The workshop takes place Wednesday, August 29 at 10 am at the Main Library in Newton. To ensure you have a seat, please register by calling 828.465.8665. As part of the session, we’ll also learn how to set a traditional Hmong table.
