Catawba County Board of Commissioners next meeting set for 9:30 am on Monday, December 4, 2006 at the 1924 Courthouse at 30 North College Avenue in Newton, NC.
The Catawba County Board of Commissioners will receive the County Financial Report for fiscal year 2005-2006, which ended on June 30, 2006; and consider a series of leases, purchases, declarations of surplus property, and agreements to formalize the County’s relationship with Catawba Valley Behavioral Healthcare, a non-profit organization created to deliver comprehensive services to adults with serious conditions of mental illness and developmental disabilities. The Board will also hold its annual organizational meeting, consider a set of amendments to the County’s Work First Plan, a request for a transfer of funds already budgeted for Catawba Valley Community College, a set of tax refunds, a recommendation to the NC Board of Transportation regarding a request from citizens that the NC Department of Transportation abandon maintenance of the last 217 feet of State Road 2648 (Saunders Road) and the recommended appointment of a new Map Review Officer for the City of Hickory. Catawba County’s Budget Office has been recognized by its peers for producing a budget document which is easy to read and understand, for the 18th straight year!
The County Budget Office has won the 2006 Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The award is presented to governmental units which, according to the GFOA, "reflect the commitment of the governing body and staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting." In order to receive the award, Catawba County’s Budget Office had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. Click here to read more |
Just in time for the holidays! Volume II of "Tastes from the County", a recipe book filled with recipes submitted by Catawba County employees! Both volumes are being sold to raise funds for the Catawba County Park System 
Volume I contains more than 600 recipes, while the new Volume II has more than 700! Each volume sells for $12 or you may buy the full set for $20. They're available at both Bakers Mountain and Riverbend Parks, at all branches of the Catawba County Library or at the County Manager's Office on the second floor of the Government Center in Newton. A pottery and chili fund raiser for the Connections Clubhouse, a private non-profit organization providing a psychosocial rehabilitation program to Catawba County citizens, will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.
You're invited to the Agricultural Resource Center at 1175 S. Brady Avenue in Newton on December 5 from 11 am-2 pm to enjoy a warm bowl of chili for lunch.
