The Catawba County Board of Commissioners next meeting is set for 9:30 am on Monday, December 3, 2007 at the 1924 Courthouse, 30 North College Avenue in Newton, NC.
The Board will receive an update on design plans for a new Snow Creek Elementary School, which are expected to result in considerable savings through an energy-efficient design, and will consider advancing funds from the County’s fiscal year 2008-09 budget to install air conditioning in the Fred T. Foard High School gymnasium so the project can be completed by the start of the 2009 school year, when the Board meets at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, December 3, 2007, in the Robert E. Hibbitts Meeting Room in the 1924 Courthouse in Newton.
The Board will also hold its annual organizational meeting to select a chairperson and vice-chairperson for the coming year and appoint commissioners to serve on Board subcommittees; and will consider appropriating funds from a Federal grant to assist in the cost of maintaining a comprehensive emergency management program; a revision to the current Mental Health Services Budget to allocate additional State funds; a settlement agreement regarding final payment due on the construction of Mental Health Services’ Life Skills building and the awarding of a bid for Construction Quality Assurance services during the construction of a new lined cell at the Blackburn Landfill. | Catawba County Public Health worked with local restaurants for a successful Great American Smokeout.
The event, which took place on November 15, challenges smokers to smoke less or quit for a 24-hour period in the hopes that it will inspire them to stop smoking completely.
Public Health, which adopted a policy banning all tobacco products from its campus in July 2005, and the American Cancer Society conducted a series of activities throughout the community and in the public schools. Full story |
