Catawba County Planning Board to meet at 7 pm on Monday, October 30, 2006 at the Government Center (Highway 321 Business at Radio Station Road) in Newton, NC

Early voting has begun at two locations in Catawba County; will continue through 1 pm on Saturday, November 4, when special Saturday voting hours will be held.
Early voting for
the election to be held on November 7, 2006 began on October 19th at two locations: the Catawba County Library at 115
West ‘C’ St. in Newton and the Highland Recreation Center at 1515 12th St. Dr. NW, Hickory. The hours for early voting will be from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, through November 3, 2006. On Saturday, November, 4, 2006, early voting will be offered from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Curbside voting will be available for anyone who needs it. Click here to read more

Catawba County Health Department will offer citizens three ways to get a flu shot this fall. The easiest and most convenient way for you to get a flu shot may be by going to a "drive-through" shot clinic, during which you can get a flu vaccination in the comfort of your vehicle, to be held on Saturday, November 11, 2006 from 7 am to 3 pm at the Hickory American Legion Fairgrounds, located off Highway 70 between Hickory and Conover. Flu shots will also be available, by appointment only, at the Health Department at 3070 11th Avenue Dr. SE in Hickory (behind Catawba Valley Medical Center) beginning on Monday, November 13. Catawba County Public Health also will join with Catawba Valley Medical Center to hold two flu shot clinics at the Health First Clinic on the lower level at Valley Hill Mall, next to Belk, on the mornings of November 15 & 29. The Catawba County Library System has recently expanded its collection of large-print books. Titles have been chosen to meet reader demand in a variety of subject areas, with fiction titles being very popular. Large print books tend to be most popular with older patrons and those with vision problems, but they are becoming increasingly popular with people who like to read them while exercising on a treadmill.
