Catawba County Board of Commissioners next meeting set for 7 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2007, at the 1924 Courthouse, 30 North College Avenue in Newton, NC.
The Catawba County Board of Commissioners will receive an update on the recently adjourned session of the North Carolina General Assembly and on progress toward the Board’s State Legislative Goals for 2006-2007 and 2007-2008, and an update on the County’s pandemic flu plan and a recent drill held by the Public Health Department to test procedures that would be used for mass dispensing of medications, when the Board meets at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2007, in the Robert E. Hibbitts Meeting Room of the 1924 Courthouse in Newton.
The Board will also honor retired Sheriff’s Deputy Pete Sobotkin with the traditional presentation of his service sidearm and badge, and present a Certificate of Commendation to Ms. Phyllis Heil of Hickory, 2007 International Whistling Entertainer of the Year. Full agenda

Duke Energy has set guidelines for watering lawns with lake pumps on the Catawba-Wateree river chain.
Pumps may be used Tuesdays and Saturdays, from sunset to sunrise. This restriction applies to all Catawba County residents using lake pumps, regardless of their location. Duke Energy restrictions |

Seniors Morning Out program to host trip back to "the good ol' days"
The September 21 event will feature bluegrass music, a southern gospel band, clogging, classic cars, antique tractors, wagon rides and games. Full story

Fred Miller, Catawba County Cooperative Extension Director, takes office as President
of the National Association of County Agricultural Agents.
Miller is the first and only agent from North Carolina ever elected to serve as Association President. He and other North Carolina Cooperative Extension Agents are planning to host the 2008 Annual Meeting and Professional Improvement Conference in Greensboro. Full story

| The Sherrills Ford Friends of the Library will hold its annual Fall Festival on Saturday, September 22, on the library grounds.
The public is cordially invited to participate in fun, food and frolic from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the library at 8456 Sherrills Ford Road. Assorted fall perennials will be available for sale, along with food. Prizes will be awarded for children’s games. Crafts will be offered for children.

Catawba County Sheriff David Huffman to continue as chairman of National Sheriff's Association committee studying terrorism threats
The Association’s Weapons of Mass Destruction Committee examines biological, chemical and other terrorism threats, and coordinates with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to combat terrorist activity. Sheriff Huffman will also serve as Vice-Chairman of the NSA Nominating Committee and as a member of the Association’s Legislative Affairs Committee. Full story |
