Catawba County names new Social Services Director
John K. Eller, IV, who is currently Director of Social Services in Cabarrus County, North Carolina and has over nine years of experience in social services administration in western and central North Carolina, has been named Catawba County’s next Social Services Director. The Catawba County Board of Commissioners next meeting is set for
9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at the 1924 Courthouse at 30 N. College Avenue in Newton.
The Catawba County Board of Commissioners will consider a transfer of funds, from existing projects and state lottery proceeds, to fund expansions at Fred T. Foard and St. Stephens High Schools, and the awarding of bids for a portion of the final phase of the Southeast Catawba County Water Supply Loop, when the Board meets at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, in the Robert E. Hibbitts Meeting Room of the 1924 Courthouse at 30 N. College Avenue in Newton.
The Board will also consider a request from the North Carolina Department of Transportation for a recommendation regarding the proposed abandoning of maintenance on portions of both Kiser Island Road (the first 1000 feet where Kiser Island Road intersects with NC Highway 150) and Meandering Way (the last 370 feet); the awarding of bids for a new wheel loader needed at the Blackburn Landfill; the appropriation of Alcoholic Beverage Control funds to Mental Health Partners to provide substance abuse treatment services in the county; an amendment to the terms of a lease of property between the County and Catawba Valley Behavioral Healthcare; a proposed Work First Plan for the County for Fiscal Years 2009 through 2011; and an amendment to an Urgent Repair Program Project Budget to expend interest earned on funds saved under one line item. The Board will also honor retired County Commissioner and N.C. House Representative Stine Isenhower with its highest honor, the Catawba County Spirit Award; present a Distinguished Public Services Award to Cooperative Extension Director Fred Miller in recognition of his term as President of the National Association of County Agricultural Agents; and formally welcome Catawba County’s new Assistant County Manager, Dewey Harris, who began his new duties on August 25.
