Incoming Catawba County Assistant County Manager Dewey HarrisCatawba County names new Assistant County Manager.

In an 18 year career in local and state government, Dewey Harris has been a leader in virtually the entire range of governmental services, from administration to budget and finance to emergency services, human services, and technology. He will soon be bringing that experience to Catawba County Government as one of its two Assistant County Managers.  Full story

Karyn Yaussy, Catawba County Emergency Management CoordinatorExperienced Red Cross volunteer and state liaison named Catawba County Emergency Management Coordinator. 

Karyn Yaussy will primarily be responsible for updating and maintaining Catawba County’s Emergency Plans.  Full story

Images from the Catawba County EcoComplexCatawba County, Appalachian State University, enter into biodiesel fuel research agreement.

University staff and students will work at a biodiesel fuel testing facility to assist the County in producing biodiesel fuel from its EcoComplex and locally grown crops, and assist biodiesel fuel producers in western North Carolina. A building will be constructed to house the research and the County's White Goods Freon recovery operation. Full story   More on the County's EcoComplex

Mental Health Partners logoMental Health Services begins a new phase apart from County government.

A significant change took place for Catawba County Government on July 1st. The agency that had been known as Mental Health Services of Catawba County moved from being a department of the county government to become a new stand-alone agency, called Mental Health Partners.  It’s the result of a merger of the former Burke County and Catawba County Mental Health Services to manage, but not provide, mental health related services for the citizens of those two counties. The Catawba County Board of CommissionersThe Catawba County Board of Commissioners' next meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2008 at the 1924 Courthouse at 30 North College Avenue in Newton, NC

The Board will receive reports on North Carolina ethics rules and laws governing lobbying, and on the recently completed Short Session of the North Carolina General Assembly and the status of the Board's state legislative agenda, when the Board meets at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2008, at the 1924 Courthouse at 30 North College Avenue in Newton. After more than two years on the job as Claremont Branch Library manager, Rich Haunton feels right at home. Like his counterparts at other locations of the Catawba County Library System, he knows many of his patrons by name.
