The Catawba County Board of CommissionersThe Catawba County Board of Commissioners will adopt a County budget and consider a rezoning request, at 7 p.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at the 1924 Courthouse, 30 North College Avenue in Newton, NC.

The Catawba County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on a request to rezone 5.21 acres, at 5819 Highway 16 South, from R-40 Residential to the HC Highway Commercial District, and adopt a fiscal year 2007-2008 Catawba County budget, when the Board meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at the 1924 Courthouse in Newton. Before considering final budget adoption, the Board will hear from Newton-Conover City Schools Superintendent Dr. Barry Redmond and Board of Education Chair Randy Isenhower regarding the Newton-Conover City Schools budget request for fiscal year 2007-2008.  The Board will also consider awarding a bid for the provision and delivery of aggregate stone for an expansion of the County’s Construction and Demolition Landfill.  Full agenda

Catawba County’s ongoing efforts to create an Eco-Complex at the Blackburn Landfill have been honored with the 2007 Thomas H. Muehlenbeck Award for Excellence in Local Government from the Alliance for Innovation.  The EcoComplex is designed to promote economic development and create new jobs in the green energy, green business, agricultural and environmental sectors.  Full story  See how the Eco Complex works

Keep Catawba County Beautiful (KCCB) was formed as an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful on October 31, 2007 to make a positive difference by promoting education and responsible behavior regarding littering, recycling, proper solid waste management, and beautification.   At KCCB's annual meeting on June 7, the accomplishments made by KCCB committees toward first year goals were announced.   Full story
