The Catawba County Board of Commissioners will not meet on first Monday in March
Because some members of the Board attend the National Association of Counties Legislative Conference in Washington during the first week of March, the Board of Commissioners traditionally does not meet on the first Monday in March. The Board's next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2007 at the 1924 Courthouse at 30 North College Avenue in Newton. Details will be included in the March 15 issue of Catawba County E-News.

Now that the Catawba County Unified Development Ordinance has passed, what does it mean to you?
The Catawba County Board of Commissioners adopted a Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) on February 5, 2007, after seven years of work to create Small Area Plans and develop the UDO, and six months of study and public hearings by the Board. In this and the next few issues of Catawba County E-News, we will present detailed information on how the final UDO may effect you, as well as a link to a wealth of information about the UDO itself.

Stewards of Children program comes to Catawba County, offering training on how to recognize and prevent child sexual abuse.
The Children's Advocacy Center of Catawba County, in collaboration with the Catawba County Department of Social Services, Rape Crisis Center and Central Latino, is bringing Darkness to Light's Stewards of Children program to the community. Stewards of Children is a revolutionary, research-based sexual abuse prevention training program that educates adults to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to the epidemic of child sexual abuse. | Pianist John Coffey, a former resident of Catawba County, will return as the featured entertainment for a March 7th luncheon to benefit the Heart Gallery of Catawba Valley.
The
luncheon will begin at 12:00 Noon on Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at the Newton-Conover Civic and Performance Place, at 60 West 6th Street in Newton. The Heart Gallery supports Family Builders of Catawba Valley and its mission to create, build, strenghten and sustain families through foster care and adoption. Full story

The Catawba County Library system will salute the writings of Dr. Seuss during March
Dr. Seuss story times will be held at the Main, St. Stephens and Southwest branch libraries to honor the works and memory of this beloved American children's author. Special displays will be featured at the Conover and Sherrills Ford branches. Full story |

Catawba County seniors are invited and encouraged to attend a Health and Information Fair for Older Adults on March 12.
If you're 60 years or older, mark you calendar now to attend the Health and Information Fair for Older Adults in Catawba County. The Health Fair is scheduled from 8:00 to 11:30 am on Monday, March 12 at the Highland Recreation Center at 1431 8th St. Dr. NE in Hickory, at Stanford Park. The fair will include free health screenings, information about senior programs, entertainment, and a free take-home bag lunch. More information |
