Catawba County Planning Board will meet at 7 pm on Monday, January 29, 2007 at the Government Center (Highway 321 Business at Radio Station Road) in Newton, NC
The Catawba County Planning Board will hold four public hearings on rezoning requests (for parcels located at 3013 and 3025 Highway 127 South, 2617 Highway 16 South, 5767 Highway 150 East and 5793 Highway 150 East) when it meets at 7 pm on Monday, January 29, 2007, in the Second Floor Meeting Room of the Government Center in Newton. A public hearing on a proposed Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) for Catawba County has been continued until the next meeting of the Catawba County Board of Commissioners on Monday, February 5, 2007, at 9:30 a.m. at the 1924 Courthouse at 30 North College Avenue in Newton.
The Board of Commissioners is expected to take action on the UDO on February 5th. The final draft of the UDO text is available online at www.catawbacountync.gov, and is at all branches of the Catawba County Library and the County Office of Planning and Community Development. Click here to read more

Say "I Do" on Valentine's Day at the Catawba County Register of Deeds Office.
The Catawba County Register of Deeds Office is inviting future brides and grooms to avoid some of the many tasks involved in a wedding by getting married on Valentine's Day, Wednesday, February 14, 2007, at the Register of Deeds Office at the Justice Center in Newton. Their "Cupid's Checklist" for engaged couples includes obtaining a marriage license, which is issued at the Register of Deeds Office, and having a $20 pastor service, a photographer and two witnesses. Have an old computer you want to dispose of properly? A free Consumer Electronics recycling event is planned for Saturday, February 24, 2007 at the Wal-Mart on Highway 70 in Hickory.
WeRecycle!, Inc. is organizing the event, sponsored by HP, on Saturday, Feb. 24 at Wal-Mart on Highway 70 S.E. in Hickory, NC, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be free for residents in surrounding communities.
Residents may bring their used computers, monitors, printers, VCRs, scanners, copiers, fax machines, DVD players and cell phones. All brands of used computers and electronic equipment, up to five items per car, will be accepted. The following items will not be accepted at this event: TVs, home appliances, household chemicals or other chemicals of any kind.
