<description>&lt;b&gt;Description:&lt;/b&gt; Catawba County, a great place to live and work, is recruiting for a proactive manager with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to lead a progressive Animal Services Division.  Located in the scenic foothills of North Carolina, Catawba County is a fast growing and diverse County with a population of 154,000 citizens who is known as a leader in technology and innovation.  

Animal Services is provided to the citizens of Catawba County under the Emergency Services Department.   As the Animal Services Manager, you are responsible for managing animal shelter operations and animal control activities.  Duties include planning and directing the activities of the animal shelter and the animal control program; ensure all state and county laws pertaining to animal welfare and animal control are enforced; budget preparation; staff training and supervision; receiving and responding to citizen requests for service; investigating cases of reported animal bites and cruelty to animals; explaining county and state laws and ordinances to the general public; preparing and maintaining accurate records and reports; and other related duties.   This position is a full-time position with on-call duties.  

The successful candidate is:
•	An excellent and assertive communicator who uses facilitative and collaborative approaches in working with employees, other entities, and citizens.
•	A dynamic leader who continuously exemplifies and expects the provision of excellent animal services to the County’s citizens.

REQUIRES: A four year degree in Veterinary Science, Business Management, or a related field and 3 years experience managing components of an animal services program, including 3 years of responsible supervisory experience; or a 2 year degree in Veterinary Science, Business Management, or a related field and 5 years experience managing components of an animal services program, including 3 years of responsible supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.    Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with the public and explain laws and ordinances.  Valid NC Driver&apos;s license required.    Prefer applicants with the following certifications:   1) Euthanization, 2) Rabies Vaccination, 3) Tranquilizer, and 4) National Animal Control Level I and Level II. <description>&lt;b&gt;Description:&lt;/b&gt; Catawba County Social Services, an innovative entity with a supportive environment, is recruiting for a Teaching Parent in residential services. The Teaching Parent manages and delivers treatment services, by providing an appropriate adult role model in a therapeutic group home, to children who are in the custody of the Department of Social Services as well as children with a history of juvenile delinquency who are in the custody of their parents.  This person is responsible for developing a secure and clean home environment in which youth can attain personal self-sufficiency in problem solving through interaction with the Teaching Parent Staff.  Duties include development and implementation of weekly treatment plan for each youth using techniques of behavior management and behavior modification within the guidelines of the Teaching Family Model.  This position also provides counseling to and for the youth regarding personal behavior, conflict resolution, situations crisis, and teaches social skills, self-care skills, home maintenance skills, problem solving skills and study habits. Consumers and/or families are involved in the treatment process.  Responsibilities are carried out in a team approach in coordination with other group home staff members.

Work schedule is rotated using a 7-day on/7-day off schedule. The work schedule includes time for a reasonable nights sleep.  Bona fide sleep time during the duty periods are not compensable hours of work. (FLSA ref. Title 29, part 785.22)
 
REQUIRES: Graduation from a four-year college or university, preferably with a degree in a human services field, and one year of experience performing similar duties and/or working with children similar to the ones in the group home plus professional Teaching Family Model Certification; OR high school graduation and three years of experience performing similar duties and/or working with children similar to the ones in the group home plus professional Teaching Family Model Certification; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience plus professional Teaching Family Model Certification. You will work with a wide span of people and professionals and must be able to relate and communicate with people on all levels.  This position will face many problems that can affect service delivery, family dynamics, and agencies.  You must be able to look at each problem, break multiple problems into small workable sections, and prioritize and plan a solution.  Ability to listen, observe, and assess situations, and be proactive instead of reactive is critical in this position. You must be able to advocate for children and families by articulating a child&apos;s/family&apos;s needs and wishes, often being persistent in assisting families to meet their needs and persuading a &quot;resource&quot; to provide the needed service.
