KIDS IN NEED FUND
(K.I.N. Fund)

kids

He’s the child who falls between the cracks. She’s the child who lacks health insurance, is not eligible for Medicaid or NC Health Choice. He’s the child of the “working poor” family. She’s the child that captures the school nurses heart and attention as being the one who is left out. He often needs dental or vision care, sick and needs medication but does not get it due to lack of money.

The Kids In Need Fund was set up by the School Health Team of Catawba County Public Health to help meet these needs. This monetary fund will be used to meet health care needs of school children who fit the eligibility guidelines set up by the Team.

These guidelines include:doctor

  • Resident of North Carolina
  • Enrolled in school, grades K-12
  • Receive free or reduced lunch at school
  • Not be covered by health insurance, Medicaid or NC Health Choice
WHAT DOES THE K.I.N. FUND COVER?
  • Preventive, diagnostic, evaluation and treatment services
  • Prescribed medications such as antibiotics and seizure medications
  • Limited dental services
WHO ARE WE?

The School Health Team of Catawba County Public Health is comprised of a group of Registered Nurses, specially trained in School Health Nursing. We serve in all three school systems in our county, from elementary to high schools. We provide services to students that enable them to improve their potential for learning. We do vision screening and referrals; dental screenings and referrals; help set up, train personnel and monitor medication administration at the school; provide Hepatitis B vaccines to 6th graders; do health education on request; create individual health care plans for each student with a chronic health care condition that impacts their school performance; and handle communicable disease issues.

CHILDREN NOT SERVED 2003-2004
