Cindy W. Sigmon
State Dental Hygienist,
serving Catawba County
Cindy W. Sigmon, is the first NC Oral Health Section Dentist Hygienist to serve Catawba County. This statewide dental program began in Catawba County in 1986 to provide prevention and education services on dental health, specifically for children. The goal of the state program is to work toward eliminating disparities in oral health by using best practices to:
reduce oral disease through prevention, education, and health promotion
ensure that evidence-based systems are implemented to monitor the public's oral health
ensure access to dental care
provide professional education
These goals are accomplished in partnership with health care professionals and professional organizations, organizations that support improved health to make their communities stronger, and by individuals who care about children's health.
What I enjoy most about working with my patient, the community, is being able to work in different settings with so many different people promoting that prevention is the key to improved oral health. Too many citizens, and children in particular, experience preventable dental disease.
