WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Pregnant, breast feeding, and postpartum women, infants and children up to age five are persons who would be eligible for WIC.
Each person must:
Be a resident of Catawba County.
Must have a family income less than 185% of the U.S. Poverty Income Guidelines.
Contact Catawba County Public Health WIC office at (828) 695-5884. Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am until 5:00 for free screening over the telephone.
Any person receiving Medicaid, Work First Assistance, or Food Stamps will automatically meet income eligibility.

Must have a nutritional risk. This assessment is made at the WIC office.
TO DEMONSTRATE INCOME ELIGIBILTY
What you will need:
A medicaid card for the current month
or
Pay check stubs for everyone in the home that works.
Proof of your physical address where you reside. (If your physical address is different than your mailing address, please bring proof of both.)
A type of identification for the person(s) applying for WIC.
WIC CERTIFICATION PERIODS
Pregnant Women: Certification is for their pregnancy and up to six weeks postpartum. Each woman should re-certify as postpartum or as breast feeding by 6 weeks postpartum.
Non-breast feeding postpartum women:
Certification until six months postpartum.
Breast feeding postpartum women: Certified for 12 months after she delivers or when she quits breastfeeding.
Infants: Certified until one year of age (12 months).
Children: Certified every six months after first birthday until they are five years of age.
