Nutritious Foods: Eligible participants can get basic nutritious foods such as: Foods rich in protein, iron, calcium, and vitamins A and C.
Foods for Infants (Newborn to 12 months): WIC strongly encourages women to breastfeed, however infants who are bottle-fed, can receive WIC contracted brands of iron fortified infant formula for the first year. At six months of age, infants can receive iron fortified infant cereal and fruit or vegetable juices rich in vitamin C.
Foods for Women and Children (One year to five years): Eligible participants receive food vouchers for milk, cheese, eggs, cereals high in iron, peanut butter, or dried beans or peas, and fruit or vegetables high in vitamin C. Exclusively breastfeeding women may also receive vouchers for carrots and canned tuna fish.
NUTRITION EDUCATION BENEFITS
Teaches participants, parents/caretakers relationships between nutrition and good health.
Improving food consumption habits.
Additional educational goals are available to all participants whenever possible.
