The Sleeping Beauty Ballet
Published: February 05, 2019
This past December, the Library collaborated with Hickory Ballet and Performing Arts to bring The Nutcracker ballet to all seven branches. This month, we’re pleased to showcase The Sleeping Beauty, Tchaikovsky’s popular work that first debuted in the 19th century.
This special adaptation of the ballet is designed to teach elements of storytelling through dance and movement. The performances are interactive, so children will be drawn into the experience and get a firsthand feel for how a ballet (and a story) comes together.
While the ballet is not a scene-by-scene match for the well-loved Disney movie, the main plot is completely recognizable, and Tchaikovsky’s music also appears in the animated film, so little ones will be sure to enjoy the live version just as much!
The performances feature different troupes of dancers and are perfect for all ages and for families. They are sponsored by the Friends of the Library.
Showtimes are as follows:
- Conover – Saturday, February 16 at 11 am
- St. Stephens – Saturday, February 16 at 11 am
- Newton – Saturday, February 16 at 12 noon
- Sherrills Ford-Terrell – Saturday, February 16 at 1:30 pm
- Claremont – Saturday, February 23 at 11 am
- Maiden – Saturday, February 23 at 12:30 pm
Note: If you’ve enjoyed the Hickory Ballet performances the library has been hosting, stay tuned for a third series to happen later in the year!
