Make Something Cool to Give
Published: December 13, 2018
Part of the satisfaction of Christmas comes from giving people something they’ve been wanting – or better yet, giving them something they didn’t know they wanted! Handcrafted items often fall into this latter category, and any family member will confide that they truly relish the items that show a personal touch.
We’re all about taking the time to produce something unique at the Library, and we encourage folks to join us to learn new techniques for crafting, whether it’s by hand or with an additional nudge from technology.
This week, we’re offering two activities to let people expand their skills:
The first lets participants build a snowflake ornament on the 3-D printer using Tinkercad, a free, online version of computer-assisted design software (CAD). Attendees will use geometric shapes and letters that can be printed using the Library’s technology. Not only is the outcome something beautiful, but the process is a terrific way to discover 3-D printing through a specific project.
This workshop meets at 11 am on Friday, December 21 at the Main Library in Newton.
The second opportunity lets library patrons make and decorate holiday ornaments on their own schedules. Folks can learn to create a different ornament craft each week and help the library decorate its Holiday Tree as well. Each person is welcome to make two ornaments, so stop by to find out the current project, and put together something beautiful to adorn the tree and to take along for your own home or to give as a sweet gift.
This workshop meets from December 3-22, anytime the Southwest Branch Library in Mountain View is open. Supplies are provided.
