It’s time again to help Keep Catawba County Beautiful as part of Litter Sweep, a statewide initiative organized twice a year by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Volunteers are invited to help beautify the community by removing litter from our roadways at three different events this month hosted by Catawba County, the City of Newton and the City of Conover.

The Riverbend Park event takes place Saturday, April 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. courtesy of Catawba County. Volunteers are asked to bring gloves and meet in the parking lot, located at 6700 Hwy. 16 N in Conover. Lunch will be provided. For more information or to register for this event, call Lori Owenby at (828) 256-9157 or (828) 312-4834.

The City of Newton’s event takes place Saturday, April 28 at Westside Jaycee Park, located on West J Street in Newton, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Volunteers may pick up supplies between 8:30-9:00 a.m., and lunch will be served. The City of Conover’s event will be held Saturday, April 28 at Conover City Park, located at 361 5th Ave SE in Conover, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Volunteers are asked to meet at the park’s shelter between 8:00-9:00 a.m. to pick up supplies. Prizes will be given for the most unusual litter collected, and lunch will be served. For more information or to register for this event, call Joy Heller at (828) 464-1191.

Volunteers can participate as individuals or organize as teams to assist with litter removal activities.
