Let's Get Ready for Christmas!

Let's Get Ready for Christmas!

Published: December 04, 2018

With Christmas fast approaching, there’s lots to be done in the way of preparation, whether it involves cooking, shopping, decorating, cleaning, rehearsals, or any number of different tasks. If you’re a fan of the season, it’s all exhilarating; if not, you might be feeling more than a little anxious. Either way, know that the library is available to help you out!

For home and entertaining, we’ve got activities to please the senses. First, we’ll be confronting the challenges of figuring out what to serve family and guests. In our Med Flip session, we’ll transform various hors d’oeuvres to meet the Mediterranean Way guidelines, letting you feel good about reducing fat and calories during a season of feasting. (Wednesday, December 12 at 10 am at the Newton Library) We’ll also have an Art of Food workshop where participants turn standard ingredients into impressive, holiday-themed displays. On the agenda for sampling are a Christmas tree platter, a sandwich wreath, and Santa kabobs. (Thursday, December 13 at 6 pm at the Newton Library) Finally, we’ll host a seminar for making a holiday room spray. Attendees can choose among cinnamon, peppermint, pine, or orange essential oils to craft something sweet-smelling for their homes. (Wednesday, December 12 at 4 pm at the Newton Library) To register for these activities, please call 828.465.8665.

On the décor front, families can come together to assemble sweet, handcrafted items to showcase in their homes. Whether it’s fillable Christmas ornaments, pine cone Christmas trees, recycled book Christmas trees, snowflake ornaments created with the 3-D printer, DIY vinyl stickers, or a 3-D foam gingerbread man, participants will have a great time making something of their own that they can display or offer as a simple gift or stocking stuffer.

To enjoy the array of opportunities, pick up a paper copy of the library’s newsletter at any branch, or check out the digital version online. This coming week is December’s busiest in regard to making items prior to the holiday, so get your favorite activities down on your schedule, and come out and join us for the fun!
