Help Collect School Supplies
Published: June 27, 2019
Before you know it, summer will be a distant memory and school buses will be traveling the roads again.
In preparation for those upcoming days of learning, the Catawba County United Way is getting ready to host its annual school supply drive. The collection days are July 8 through August 8, 2019, and the event will benefit students in all three public school districts in Catawba County.
To illustrate the need, North Newton Elementary School principal Jill Hager says, “A lot of our students have social, emotional, and physical needs. Then they come to us on the first day of school, and they don’t have book bags. They don’t have notebooks or pencils. This drive provides us the opportunity to give these students the materials they need on that first day of school.”
The United Way is collecting the following materials: 3-ring binders, book bags, spiral notebooks, graph paper, notebook paper (college and regular rule), pens, pencils, glue sticks, dividers with tabs and pockets, glue sticks, dividers with tabs and pockets, erasers, folders, crayons, colored pencils, compasses, rulers, markers, and scissors.
Each branch of the Catawba County Library will have a drop-off area for donations, and all contributions are gratefully accepted! For more information, call 828.465.8665.
