Hands-on Gardening: Pruning

Hands-on Gardening: Pruning

Published: March 20, 2019

As a tribute to how successful the Advanced Gardener series is at the Main Library in Newton and the Maiden Branch, the Library has also launched a counterpart at the Sherrills Ford-Terrell Branch.

This hands-on gardening series features useful, well-researched information and a chance to literally get your hands dirty with direct involvement in the topic of the month. It’s coordinated by Catawba County Master Gardener volunteers, so you can rest assured that the facts and instruction you get are solid.

This month’s workshop will begin with short presentations on early spring pruning and soil science (it’s an important first step when planning a garden or maintaining an existing one). Then, participants will head outside for a DIY workshop on pruning. There will also be discussions about perennials, groundcover care, and taking a soil sample accurately. (Pick up your free kit!)

If you’d like to attend, make sure to dress for the outdoors, and bring your questions to ask the Master Gardener coordinators. Light refreshments will be provided.

The pruning session takes place Saturday, March 30 from 9:15 am-12 noon at the Sherrills Ford-Terrell Branch Library.
