Fundamentals of Nutrition

With so much research and popular wisdom weighing in on diets, foods, weight loss, and other regimens, it can be hard to know how to eat well. There’s a lot to digest in terms of opinion and advice.
To help cut through some of the confusion, the Library is offering an extended series on the fundamentals of nutrition. The six-session journey will talk about the most basic concepts and provide participants with solid information on how to smartly fuel the body.
Each month, we’ll feature a new subject related to the foundations of nutrition, beginning this week with the benefits of a nutrient-rich diet. We’ll also explore what nutrients are, why our bodies need them, the evolution of the modern diet, and guidelines for proper nutrition.
If you’d like to gather relevant facts, raise questions that put the discussion into context, and talk through your understanding versus what is shared, we’d love to have you join us.
The first workshop takes place at 6 pm on Tuesday, January 29 at the Sherrills Ford-Terrell Branch Library. February’s topic, following January’s focus on a nutrient-rich diet, will explore the in’s and out’s of digestion.
