Be Good to Your Heart
Published: February 05, 2019
While Valentine’s Day does a brisk business in the way of chocolate and candy hearts, it’s also a good time of year to give some love to your own heart – in the way of cardiac care.
Over the next couple of weeks, the Library will be welcoming staff members from Catawba Valley Medical Center’s Health First office. They’ll check vitals to make sure you’re in good shape, and they’ll also field basic questions you may have.
These free health checks will help ensure that you’re running like a well-oiled machine, and they’re a valuable reminder that February is American Heart Month.
The drop-in sessions will take place as follows:
- Southwest – Monday, February 11 from 4-6 pm
- St. Stephens – Thursday, February 14 from 3-5 pm
- Sherrills Ford-Terrell – Tuesday, February 26 from 4-6 pm
As added insurance for a healthy heart, the Library will also offer a hands-on food preparation class intended to help participants eat more healthfully. We’ll be making simple salads and dressings that are good for your body and that won’t break your budget. Be prepared to sample a few of the offerings and to take home the recipes.
This heart-healthy class takes place at 6 pm on Monday, February 11 at the Southwest Branch Library. (Yes, you can get your health check and then attend the class immediately afterwards!)
