SHERRILLS FORD CONVENIENCE CENTER TO REMAIN OPEN UNTIL MAY 17
Catawba County received a letter from Mr. James M. Short, Jr. Senior Vice President, Land Management for Carolina Centers, LLC on March 12, 2009 which said:
“I have been informed that Duke Energy is interested in acquiring the entire 10 acre site on which the convenience center is located. It is also my understanding that there have been discussions between Duke Energy and the County concerning the County’s acquisition of a portion of the property from Duke Energy for the continued operation of this convenience center.
To allow time for Carolina Centers and Duke Energy to work out the details of a possible agreement for the sale of the property to Duke Energy, Carolina Centers is extending the date by which the County must vacate the site to May 31, 2009. If Carolina Centers has not conveyed the property to Duke Energy by that date, then the County must vacate the property by May 31, 2009 in accordance with the terms of my letter to you dated January 26, 2009.”
Sincerely,
James M. Short, Jr.
Senior Vice President, Land Management
Catawba County would close the site on May 17 because the County would need two weeks to completely clear the property and restore the land to Carolina Centers.
“Catawba County appreciates this extension of time,” said Kitty Barnes, Chair of the Catawba County Board of Commissioners. “It will allow us to continue working toward our goal to have a solid waste convenience site in the Sherrills Ford and Terrell area, without an interruption of that service beginning on March 16 as we originally anticipated.”
